Candace Toma won the 7th Annual Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge, presented by the Historica Dominion Institute. Since its inception, the writing challenge has become the largest and most recognizable essay writing competition in Canada for Aboriginal youth.
Her story, titled “Ghosts of the Future”, was the winning entry in the 14-18 year old youth category. Candace won a $2500 cash prize, an all expense paid trip for two to Toronto for the awards ceremony, and her story will now be published in a national magazine. Congratulations Candace!

Last week, the first MINS yearbooks that have ever been published were delivered to the school. They have a glossy cover, class pictures, and lots of color photographs from all of last year’s best events. M.I.N.S. is selling the 2009-2010 yearbooks for $20 per copy and they are available at the school office. The proceeds will go towards this year’s school events, such as the Outside Looking In dance program.
Thanks to last year’s yearbook committee: Raylene O’Leary, Jenny Pickett, Devon Conway, Nola Patterson, and Kris Schuetzek.
